I just met him once at his son's wedding, Eric's. My mother mentioned him today. Just heard nothing but good things.

Just yesterday I was passing the location of the former Menger's Bakery at "Five Points" in Union. I was sharing with a friend how every July 5th we celebrated Michael's birthday with a banana layer cake that had chocolate curls on top. Those of us on the summer staff at School 22 had the joy of sharing this special day with him. I'm addition to all the heartfelt memories others have expressed, I had this extra special one too.

I am visiting my mother in Elizabeth & just took my reminiscent walk to school 21. Walking past the school and playground, I was flooded with memories of days long ago. Mr. Cohn was my 5th grade teacher and we were his very first class. He was the best teacher I ever had! He made learning fun & interesting & wanted all of his students to reach their potential. He cared about all aspects of his students & worked just as hard on building their self esteem, confidence, & social emotional skills...

Love you Pop
I just wanna thank all who wrote about my father. It's great to hear about him as a teacher because me and my brother never got to see that side of him.

In my opinion, Mr. Cohn was a great man. If you measure greatness by how much a person contributes to the lives of others, he was one of the greatest people I ever met. My daughter is in fifth grade this year, and it has given me a chance to reflect on my own fifth grade experience with Mr. Cohn as my teacher at School 21. He was cheerful, helpful and wise. Mr. Cohn helped me at a difficult time in my life. I know he did the same for countless others during his long career. I want his family...

I had Mr. Cohn as my 5th grade teacher at Victor Mravlag. We were his first class as a teacher right out of college. He was wonderful right from the start. He made 5th grade fun, inspirational, nurturing and everything an 11 year old could ever hope for. We are definitely better people because of Mr. Cohn. Sincere sympathy to family.

The news of Mike's passing makes me terribly sad. I knew and loved him since I was a little boy and he was my all-time favorite camp counselor (for many years), only to eventually become my all-time favorite principal. Although I haven't been in touch with him for years, I feel the loss deeply. He was more important in my life than he ever knew, and I want to convey my deepest sympathies to his family and my gratitude for their willingness to share Mike with so many of us.
