I never met Michael, but we both attended Camps Mohican-Reena in Palmer, Massachusetts in the late 50's-early 60's. We have an active alumni group, and Michael had recently found the group on the internet. In our last communication, he told me that he wouldn't be able to attend our annual dinner in NYC on March 28th because he was in Florida, but he looked forward to coming to future events.

Conocí a Michael gracias a Susie, mi mujer.

To Michael, my dear irascible, generous and tenderest of friends. Your body betrayed you but your spirit will prevail in the hearts of those who loved you.

Michael Cooperstein had an artist's perspective He was a wonderful photographer. He saw the beauty in the inner workings of a watch, in the shape of a vase, in a profile. His astute eye missed nothing and his sharp brain analyzed what he saw. A truthful, complicated, dear, dear, friend, I could count on that friendship through anything. His presence will stay with me for the rest of my life. It just has to.

Michael, you were always a bright spot on any given day. You were a warm and caring person. Your wry humor will be missed.

Michael's warmth, good humor, generosity, strong opinions and interesting conversation will be sorely missed. He touched us in ways we never anticipated, and the world is a colder and harder place with his passing. We are grateful for the opportunity to have known this excellent man.

For forty years Michael’s intelligence and wit illuminated our weekly Saturday night dinners. His love of cars, film, art, flowers, travel, politics, the BBC comedy programs--the world filtered through the prism of Michael's distinctive aesthetic--ensured lively conversation. He had a talent for giving gifts. For finding exactly the right thing you never knew you needed, but which forever after you could never live without. He was eccentric. We dare say that could describe most people of...
