Chambers Funeral Homes - North Olmsted Obituary

MICHAEL C. COX, age 77, beloved husband of the late Marilyn (nee Barber); loving father of Lisa Wintrick (David) and Kelly Severo; proud grandfather of Michael Wintrick and Ryan, Brandon and Sarah Severo; dear brother of William W. Cox (Carol); and friend of many.  U.S. Navy veteran.

Michael Cox was born in Springfield, Illinois to parents Rose and Bill Cox, joining his brother Bill and rounding out the Cox family.  The family moved around during Mike’s early years, landing in Lakewood, Ohio in 1954.

Mike entered St Clement’s grade school and quickly made friends with the neighborhood kids, he split his high school years between St Edward and Lakewood High.

During his school years he made many lasting friendships, a theme that would continue throughout his life.

After his time in the Navy, Mike returned home to Lakewood and met Marilyn Barber.  They were married and welcomed two daughters, Lisa and Kelly.

Mike worked for Frank A. Walsh and Sons until he joined local 744 and was proud to be a Boilermaker for the rest of his life.

The family moved to West 173 in 1969, where neighbors became friends, and friends became family.  They lived in the same house over 40 years.  That house was one of laughter and fun, with Mike holding court in the basement.

Mike’s pride and joy were his grandchildren, and he rarely missed a chance to cheer them on from the sidelines.

During his last few years, Mike was content to hold court in a new place, his porch at Lake Mohawk, where he surrounded himself with family and reconnected with old friends.  He could be found in front of his fire most nights, telling old stories, a glass of Tullamore Dew in hand.

Mike will be remembered by his family as a generous and proud dad, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, and uncle.

He will be remembered by his friends as genuine, loyal and always willing to stay for one more beer.

We will all remember him as reliable, unwavering, and there when we needed him, no matter what.

Passed away January 18, 2022.  Funeral Mass Monday, January 24, St. Patrick Church (West Park) at 10 A.M. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH).  Private inurnment St. Joseph Cemetery (Avon).  Friends may call at CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of NORTH OLMSTED, 29150 LORAIN RD. AT STEARNS RD., SUNDAY 2-5 P.M.
