Michael Rodgers DeFrehn, 54, of St. Albans, passed away suddenly on November 14, 2016, at Thomas Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 15, 1962 in South Charleston to the late Ellsmore Allen and Mary (Wightman) DeFrehn. He was a graduate of St. Albans High School, class of 1980. After graduation he was employed at Appalachian Motor Service. After 30 years of loyal service he was employed at Chem Valley Machine, Inc. for approximately one year before accepting a position at Andritz Separation where he was currently employed as a process engineer. In addition to his full time job, he ran a business (DeFrehn Racing) where he specialized primarily in high performance racing engines. He had a lifetime passion for drag racing with his brother David for over 40 years. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann and brother, John Allen DeFrehn Michael is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Teresa Payne DeFrehn; daughters, Erikah (Billy), Amanda ( Anthony), and Kaitlin (Lemar); grandchildren, Hunter, Chloe, Nevaeh, Parker, Audrey, Keagan, Laykin, Christian, and Gaige; brother, David (Kimberlan); nephew, Valeryi; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. A service to Honor the Life of Michael will be held at 1:30PM, Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and Friends may visit from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hospice Care of West Virginia,1606 Kanawha Blvd W., Charleston, WV 25378-2536. I just now learned of Mike's passing. He and I grew up together on Village Drive in South Charleston -- our houses were across the street from each other. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. Mike's family will be in my prayers.

Mike was a great friend and mentor. I will miss talking about fishing at OBX with him as well as talking racing. He was always great about answering anything I wanted to know about engines. I will miss his friendly morning hellos as he got his coffee filled and quick conversations as he passed my desk to the copier.
