Mike was my Ph.D. advisor, way back when (1968-71). He taught me how to think and how to approach problem solving. He never was concerned with the "traditional boundaries" between disciplines ... and he was an inspiration to me and to his many students. Despite his many obligations he remembered to send me and my wife a congratulatory telegram from Moscow on our wedding day -- in fact, our first date was at a party hosted at his home.
