Michael O. Donohoo. Died Aug. 8 at his home in Diamond Bar, CA. Mike Donohoo was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 9, 1934, the son of the late Horace Van Waldo and Norma Lois Donohoo. After attending 30 different elementary schools, he went to high school in Salt Lake City, UT. From there, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving with the forces of occupation in Germany between 1952 and 1953. Upon returning, he attended the University of California at Berkeley, graduating with a degree in logical science. His first and only job after graduation was with Crocker Bank in San Francisco, CA. Crocker was later absorbed into Wells Fargo Bank, but Mike somehow survived all the mergers and retired from Wells Fargo Bank Beverley Hills Branch in 1996 after 38 years of service. Mike was always proud of the fact that he had kept the same job for his entire career.
Remaining a bachelor for most of his working life, Mike married Susan Chen in 1989 at the age of 55. They enjoyed 26 years of happy marriage during which they traveled extensively to many different countries. Mike especially enjoyed times spent with Susan’s extended family in Taiwan. After retirement, Mike and Susan moved from California to Savannah, GA to look after his aging mother until her death in 2011, before moving back to California. Mike was also a devoted grandfather to Chloe, who spent many school vacations with her grandparents in Savannah and Los Angeles.
Mike is survived by his wife Susan, his brother Brian, his stepchildren Shao-Kang Hsia and Michelle Hsia, grandchildren Jesse Hsia and Chloe Chang, cousins Susan, Marsanne, Virginia, Patti, Linda, Nancy and many grand cousins.
The funeral service is at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 15, at Mortuary Chapel of Rose Hills Memorial Park.
