Rigby Harting and Hagan Funeral Home - Media Obituary

Michael Edgar Dougherty, age 27, passed away suddenly on October 26, 2022. A beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, Mike will be remembered for his beautiful smile and sense of humor.

Mike was born and raised in Springfield, PA. He attended Springfield High School and graduated with the Class of 2013. He was an excellent athlete who played both Varsity baseball and 4 years of Varsity football. Mike received both All Central and All Delco Football honors and was named All-Delco Linebacker 2012. He was extremely proud to be the Cougar’s all-time record holding tackler. After graduation, he attended Stetson University as a business major and played football for the Hatters. For his second year of college he transferred to Temple University to continue his education and play football for the Owls. After college, he began working full time for his father’s business, Keystone Structures, Inc. where he became proficient in the design of manufactured buildings.

An excellent athlete, Mike was also a talented artist and co-host of a weekly podcast. He grew up cheering for Penn State and loved all Philadelphia sports team, the Sixers being his favorite. He was ecstatic that the Phillies made it to the World Series this year and that the Eagles were undefeated at the time of his death. One of his favorite pastimes was hanging with friends and watching whatever game was on TV at the time. His mother Carolyn always new whether the team was winning or losing by the yells coming from his room.

Mike enjoyed torturing his younger sister Natalie by chasing her, tackling her, and maniacally laughing the entire time. She will miss the Facetime calls and being awakened at 3am by his storming into her room to tell her about his crazy nights at the bar. He loved to jump out and scare her and to wake her up by jumping on her bed with over 200 pounds of pure love. She loved him so much that he was the person she took her first steps toward. When he wasn’t getting on her nerves, he was playing with the dogs. His family had Border Collies throughout his childhood and his favorites were Tex and Gus. He also adored his mother’s Schnauzer Stella. All of the dogs adored him and were “his dogs”.

Mike’s older sister Amy had the privilege of watching him grow up and loved him throughout his entire life with all of her heart. She was so proud of Michael’s athletic achievements, artwork and the biggest fan of his most recent addition as a podcast co-host.

Mike is survived by his parents Carolyn, Michael and Whitney, sisters Amy and Natalie, grandparents Barbara Newhart, Terrence and Lois Noll, John and Sue Mycek, and many extended family members.

Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects to Mike on Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 11:00-1:00pm at Spring Valley Banquet Facility, 400 W. Woodland Avenue, Springfield, PA.
