Not sure what to say?

Mike Downs' surprise gift to the Vital Ground Foundation in support of grizzly habitat allowed his cousin to write a lovely obituary that appeared in the spring 2011 issue of Vital Ground's newsletter--read at "vitalground.org" and enjoy another side of this person. I didn't know him in life, but I can sure identify with his legacy to our fellow inhabitants of this endangered planet.

We have known Mike and his mother since 1996, when we moved here. He hauled our feed for us. He was a great guy and his mother was so sweet. We had them out for dinner on some of the holidays. I just can't believe it. He will be missed but has gone to be with his parents. God's Love To All, Veronica & Wayne Brost

Mike was a true gentlemen. We met through poker and became friends outside of the game. He has many friends throughout the poker community and he will be greatly missed.

There never are any "right words" --- only thing I can say is that I know Mike will be missed by all who knew and loved him. I will miss our many chance encounters at the post office over the last several years. My first meeting with Mike was in l977 --- worked closely with him in the marine industry, then years later with his truck.

My thoughts and prayers go to the entire family and wonderful friends he leaves behind.

P.S. Danny Daniels --- please contact me.

We have know Mike and his Mom since 1981, they wer customers of ours at Mat-Su Auction in Wasilla. We got to know them and thought the world of both of them. Very loving, caring people. Mike will be missed by many. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family. God be with all of you at this time and forever.

I met Mike in June of this year when he came in to talk about insurance. He was very kind. I was looking forward to many years of working with him. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
