Not sure what to say?

I had the honor and great fortune to know and perform with Michael in Lake Charles La. where he was the trumpet teacher at McNeese Uversity. He is still fondly remembered here even now 20 years later. He and his family where members of the same church we attended, and my wife and I got to know him well. I can truly say he was one of the finest gentleman my wife and I ever befriended.
To perform along side Michael was such a pleasant experience. He had a leadership quality that brought...

Dr. Ewald was an important part of the UI School of Music. He was extremely generous with his time and helped me grow as a musician as much as anyone on campus. I use his teachings daily as I work with my students and deeply regret how many people will never have the chance to hear him play or learn from him. It was a pleasure to study with such a great musician and human being.

Lynn, Amy and Annmarie, our love and sympathy is for you at this difficult time. We will always remember Mike for his sweet spirit and love of the Lord. His trumpet fanfares from the balcony at the old Trinity lifted our spirits on many occasions. We treasured our friendship during our times together. Mike embodied the man described in Psalm 1, and we rejoice knowing that he is now with our Savior.

My prayers go out to Prof. Ewald's family. May God place his loving arms around you in this time of need.

My condolences to the Ewald family in their loss. Doc was a great man and a wonderful influence on all of us, professionally and personally. He will be missed!

Words don't come close to the justice of actually being around Doc. He really embodied the sort of peace that I think everyone looks for in themselves and in others, which explains why he was a friend to all he met. It was the sort of peace that I have seen in very few people but you know it instantly. He was/is a most important mentor as a professional musician to many including myself, but he showed me without many words what was really important in life. His role as a family first...

Michael was a wonderful musician and colleague during our 10 years together at the University of Illinois. I learned a lot from Michael's playing and teaching and his influence will live with me forever. My deepest sympathy for Mike's family.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out the Ewald family.
Michael was a friend, a wise mentor, a beautiful soul who will be profoundly missed.
His contribution to my life, as well as to the lives of countless other colleagues and students is immeasurable. Godspeed my friend.

It is difficult to find the right words to describe the loss felt by the passing of Micahel Ewald. He was a wonderful person and an amazing musician. I have no doubt he is with Our Lord. May his family find solace in that and with all of the love felt for Mike and through him.
