I have just listened to Love and Radios 'Blink Once for Yes' about Michael.
From what I heard, he kept his personality and spirit until the end and is what I would expect from a man of his achievements. That in itself hints at what a character he must've had.
My condolences to your family and I hope time can help you all find some peace with what it is you all and Michael had to endure.
