Michael Walter Plavka, 57, of East Rochester, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at Alliance Community Hospital. Born in Wolf Run, Ohio on June 4, 1946, he was the son of the late John and Olga (Gubanez) Plavka.

He worked as a Kiln Drawer at Royal China. He received the Purple Heart, while serving as a SP 4 in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Sebring VFW and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie (Baker) whom he married in 1968. In addition to his wife he is survived by sons Joe and friend Amanda of Minerva, Glenn and friend Jennifer of Minerva, John and wife Kim of Amsterdam, Mike III and friend Heather of East Rochester; stepdaughters and stepson-in-law Christine & Brian Spurgeon of Maryland, Vicki Garbrandt of East Springfield; brothers John of Homeworth, Fred of Amsterdam, Gary of Minerva, Frank of Alabama; and 14 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Michael Plavka Jr. in 1969, grandson Austin Plavka, brothers Harold and Joe; and sisters Donna and Patty.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 30, 2003 at the Bartley Funeral Home with Rev. James Houston officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in Beloit. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 7-9pm at the funeral home.
