Not sure what to say?

I met Micheal in earlry 1962 when he taught at Eastern College on Mt. Vernon Place. We became close friends until his death. We shared many dinners and interesting conversations through those years. Our friendship was very special and full of delightful opinions.I could speak for hours about about this very special person, but suffice it to say, I still enjoy being friends. With love, RIP dear friend.

Thank you for all the memories at Western. R.I.P. Mr. Franko.

Our friendship started simply enough: Sorbonne, Paris 1960, dancing in the streets on Bastille Day, then becoming our
Best Man at our wedding.

For the past 60 years this remarkable man has enriched our lives and those of many with his kind heart, intelligence, humor as well as improving our vocabulary along the way! Fond memories will prevail. As Mike once told us One Lives as long as one is remembered. He leaves an enduring and cherished legacy.

For anyone who went to Western HS, & was lucky enough to have had Mr Franko as a teacher, I know, like me, you remember, & were inspired by his brilliance, precision, emphasis on correct use of language, worldliness, kindness, artistic awareness and absolutely wicked wit. Some of us, in our senior year, would hang out with him at his art filled apt on St Paul St. He was so much fun & opened up the world to our young minds. I am heartbroken. RIP, dear mentor. You shaped so many of us more than...

I have not yet come across a single Westernite who was not both stunned and saddened by the recent death of Mr. Michael Franko.
As a former Western High School teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator, he was loved and respected by his students. We will pray for his eternal soul to RIP.

Michael Franko made a tremendous impact on my life. As my teacher, yearbook advisor, and friend for more than 50 years, he always demanded correct use of the English language. Also, he was a great role model for setting high standards as well as having fun in all worthwhile endeavors. And, to top it off, he was a truly thoughtful and caring person. I feel fortunate to have learned so much from him in my youth and enjoyed his friendship thereafter.

My sincere condolences to Mr. Frankos family at this very difficult time. I can only imagine the complexity of your grief. My path crossed briefly with Mr. Franko at Western as a freshman. Although he was committed to the school and to helping all of his students navigate high school life and decision making at Western, he helped me in a slightly different way. I was not thriving at the school, although Id always been a good student. When I met with him about a possible transfer from the...

What can you say about a man so universally loved and admired? Mr. Franko was head of guidance during my years at Western High School, 1980 - 1984. He was the light in a dark and dreary time for me. I feel that he literally saved my life. His laugh, his smile, his firm look that was backed by a gentle admonition... The years I spent as a peer counselor were priceless to me. His wisdom, compassion and sage counsel shaped my life. He was more than an educator to me, he was a friend at a time...
