Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Obituary

Lane was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, but raised in Abbeville, Georgia. After graduation from Georgia Southern with a degree in art he taught in the Savannah, Georgia school district for 5 years. Then he moved to Birmingham, Alabama and worked in the sprinkler design business until he retired. He loved to paint and collected fine art. Along with his interest in art, he took joy in antique collecting. Lane and his partner enjoyed traveling and had been to many parts of the world. The Miss Alabama pageant was of great interest to him where he served as a judge for many years.

Lane is survived by his partner, Fred Blevins, who has cherished many precious memories over 37 years; his brother, Larry Gibbs (Faye); and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held in Lane's honor on Monday, February 12, 2018, at 10 AM at Holy Apostle Episcopal Church in Hoover. Interment will be Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at 3 PM at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Rochelle, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lane's memory can be made to Holy Apostles Episcopal Church, Greater Birmingham Humane Society, Miss Alabama pageant, and American Red Cross.

Not sure what to say?

Lane...I learned of your passing today from Tony Crawford whom we both worked with at "Automatic" Sprinkler in Birmingham. You were a great friend. We both started to work in the Fire Sprinkler Business on the same day, July 16, 1973. May you rest in piece my friend.

Dear Fred and family:

We are so saddened to hear of Lane's passing. He was such a fine person and I will definitely miss him. He was a fighter to the end. I know he is now reunited with his mother Wynelle and others he loved. Just know we are praying for you and the family.

Love,

John Burnett and Family (son of the late Jamie Walker Burnett--Lane's cousin)

I will always remember going on an excursions with Lane in Europe. Although he was hurting, he kept it to himself so that others would better enjoy themselves - he IS a selfless individual. Lane was not a respecter of person - choosing instead to ignore the temporal differences that separate us here on this earth. I am proud to be his friend and I expect to continue to experience his friendship as his life force is transformed.

So sorry to hear of Lane's passing. I will remember his kindness and humor and the love he had for his art. It always brightened our day to see you both come in to the shop. Our prayers are with you.May God's peace comfort you Fred, and knowing that Lane is breathing easy now.
Love, Marilyn

My prayers are with the family and partner Fred Blevins. I was a nurse that took care of Mr. Gibbs for many years at Birminghan Pulmonary Group. He was a good man and will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Lane's passing, you are in my prayers , God bless you and your loved ones.

Dear Fred and family:
