GILLIAM, Michael G. "Mike" – Of Flint, age 66, died Monday, April 6, 2020 at his residence following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.


Private family service has been held with burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery.


A memorial service with military honors will be held after the COVID-19 restrictions of social gatherings are lifted.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Travis Mills Foundation.


Mike was born in Flint, Michigan on January 21, 1954, the son of the late Gary D. and Greta (Hopkins) Gilliam.


On June 24, 1972 he married Cheryl Shewmaker in Davison.


He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1971-1974.


Mike worked for GM for over 30 years, retiring in 2009.


Surviving are wife Cheryl;


children, Chris and wife Melinda Gilliam, Gary and wife Codie Gilliam and Mandy Gilliam;


grandchildren, Morgan, Natalie, Adysen, Rylee and Melody;


sisters, Beth and husband Larry Keel, Barb Gilliam and husband Richard Doubenmier;


brother, Dan and wife Michele Gilliam;


many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.


He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Steve and Rick Gilliam.

Cheryl, I am so sorry I cannot attend on Friday. I have my grandson and it's just not possible. My heart is with you as well as my prayers...which have been with you for a year. My memories of Mike go so far back that it's tough to remember. Neighbors, growing up together across the street and in school. You both are forever in my heart Cheryl. Love and prayers continueing for all.

So sorry to learn of Mike's death. I was married to his sister, Barbara. He was such a wonderful guy. I recall his great sense of humor and down-to-earth demeanor. I know he will be missed.

He was a great guy to work with and always had time to talk cars. So sorry. He will be missed.

So sadden by this news about Michael, he was a cousin of mine and I have known him since he was little boy, Cheryl and Mandy we will keep you and your family in our prayers Judy and Damon Bush
