Not sure what to say?

Just today I read of the passing of my friend Mike Gold in 2015. We met at new graduate students in 1965-66 at the State University at Buffalo where Mike and i shared survival stories as we made our way through the biochemistry PhD curriculum at Roswell Park Memorial Cancer Institute. Mike was studious, a great friend and one of only a handful of entrants to finish the PhD program. We spend months underground beneath the library of the University. I left abruptly with a Masters in 1968, I...

I was Mike's long term associate at OGI. Fresh off the boat from India, Mike's lab, which was small at that time, provided an opportunity for me to blossom into a good scientist. Mike had tremendous faith in my capabilities more than anyone else. My condolences to the Gold family and Doretha Stewart. So long Mike and hope to see you when I am fresh-off boat in the other world!

I was an early student of Mike's, obtaining an MS degree at OGC in 1981. I was literally fresh off the farm and he helped civilize me in many ways. He was kind, humble, patient, generous, intelligent, direct, compassionate and funny. His wry sense of humor was a real treat. He nurtured my intellectual curiosity and taught how to convert that curiosity into experimentation. In later years I encountered people who shared his willingness to do the experiment to find out, and others whose...

A lovely and brilliant man. Full of life, wit and wisdom. We enjoyed every minute in his presence and the loving way you both welcomed our family and friendship into your home. Our girls loved mike and his great sense of humor as well as his gentle teaching of nature and all it's fascinating and glorious creatures. He will be missed in so many ways- but remembering him will be a joy and will forever keep us company. All our love to you and your family, Deb.

I completed my MS degree in Dr. Michael Gold's lab at OGI in 1998. He helped me when I was having some tough times and was always helpful to me. I am now retired and living in the Ottawa, Ontario, Canada area and think of him often. Please pass on my sincere condolences to his family.

I was one of Mike's first students at OGC. I have fond memories of his friendship and mentorship.

It was a long time ago that our children were small and we were in a babysitting coop together. Michael always had a twinkle in his eye...no matter what was going on! I am so sorry to hear of his passing! My love and prayers go to all those who love him and were close.

I will always remember Michael's smile when we would meet and his excitement about a new art find.

In memory: Michael and I would talk of North West Art prints and painting by the artists, when and where ever, we would meet each other. I enjoyed our candid talks and will miss Michael.
