Fostered Camaraderie

Friends, co-workers and the woman who became his wife were all irresistibly drawn to Michael Hannan by the same qualities. They all remember a man who knew how to put people at ease and to make them laugh a lot. He was the catalyst for new friendships between the various people in his life. "Michael was the tree trunk and his friends were the branches," said Chuck Abar, a neighbor and close friend.

Mr. Hannan, 34, was an assistant vice president at Marsh & McLennan. His supervisor, Noreen Laplaski, recalled how he fostered camaraderie through his presence and his passionate involvement in a variety of corporate athletics.

His energy and enthusiasm were never more evident than in his professional life. He rose within the ranks of his department ahead of people who had been in the company far longer.

"He had so much potential, he would have really gone places in the company if he had lived," Ms. Laplaski said.

At the heart of it was his determination to find a solution to every problem. "If he came up against a wall, he would climb over it, crash through it or go under it," Ms. Laplaski said. "He wouldn't let it stop him. He was like a younger brother to me."

Friends and co-workers agree on one more thing. That what sustained Michael Hannan was his wife, Andrea, and two young daughters, Rachel, 5, and Alexandra, 22 months. "What drove Mike was how much he loved Andrea and the girls," Mr. Abar said.

Not sure what to say?

I can’t believe it’s 22 years. I knew you from hanging out at the beach club and playing softball, but what I remember about you always, was your affinity for history. It makes me sad every year to have to be reminded of what happened. May we meet again in the resurrection to a life of no pain, or suffering. RIP Mike.

Love and Miss you!!!!

Love and Miss you!!!!!

Im terribly sorry you died on 9/11, Michael. I remember where I was that awful day, which was elementary school. And how those 102 minutes totally changed our world.

I always take time to remember you Michael , I work near St Pat's and include you and your family in my morning ritual prayer walking past such beautiful cathedral. We all learned well at our lady of peace. Peace Michael. - your friend Ike

Six years. Wow. Mike, I only knew you from our beach club days where we enjoyed playing softball together. One of the things that stood out about you, was your love of history. You are now part of history in a dubious way we all wished not. You will be missed by all. May God be watching over your spirit and your family as well.

Mike
15 years later and I miss you as. Marsh softball teammate and a friend who I shared with my dad a painful but enjoyable 44-0 giants playoff win against my Vikings at Rockys....you will always be remembered and I soluted your name at the marsh memorial at 1166 yesterday

"Hannan", as I called him, was a very special human, he treated everyone with respect, even those who perhaps didn't deserve it. Although smarter than most and well read, he never looked down on anyone. He was an example of what a good person would strive to be. He treated me with respect, and cared about everyone. I can't stress this enough, this is truth and a reality, and not just niceties because he is gone now. I will never forget him.

I love and miss you so much
