I met this kind man almost thirty years ago at the Middletown Chess Club at the public library one Saturday morning. The club was a huge social benefit to me, and it helped my chess skills to grow very quickly. I have so many great chess memories of Mike..... we crossed swords many times in tournaments at the Hamilton Chess Club, and his wonderful leather roll-up chess board was fantastic. He was so good with all the players that came, no matter what age, color, or skill level they were. ...

My condolences to the family. Mr. Hassler was my home room and Algebra teacher at the Freshman school in Middletown, he was nice and easygoing. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.
