Michael J. "Hoss" Hostetler, age 71 of Andover, passed away peacefully, surrounded with love, on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Unity Hospital in Fridley.
Mike was born in Anoka, Minnesota on April 1, 1949 to Donald and Lorraine (Bennett) Hostetler. He attended Anoka High School and was a talented 3-sport athlete, but his first love was football. Mike was football captain his senior year. He was recognized as a distinguished athlete and member of the honor society. Mike was recognized as one of the greatest fullbacks in the conference by his coaches. He continued his football career at Augsburg College, where he gained several of his lifelong friends, including his ‘Gamma’ fraternity brothers.
Mike married his love, Condello Zubulake, on September 1, 1973. Settling their home in Anoka, they had three amazing children together, of which he was extremely proud: Katrina (Andover), Jason (Andover) and Krista (NYC).
Mike worked alongside his dad, Donald, in the family business, National Bushing in Anoka for several years and soon followed in his dad’s footsteps, becoming an Anoka firefighter, where he was honored to serve his community as a First Responder.
Mike’s love of sports had him continue playing softball in Anoka for several years on the American Legion teams, as well as the famous ‘Wawas’ softball team. He coached several of his son’s Anoka baseball teams, as well as served on the Anoka Area Baseball League Association Board for many years.
As a successful business owner. Mike had a bigger than life personality, witty sense of humor and contagious laugh, leading to his great connection with people. He was a tremendous leader in the business community and was asked to speak in many parts of the country, including graduations at the Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Base. Mike had a passion for helping others succeed and spreading his positive outlook on life.
Mike loved and was so proud of his family. His children and grandchildren were a top priority; he loved spending time with his family whether it was a sporting event, traveling, fishing, hosting BBQs, going to concerts or celebrating birthdays. He treasured his family.
Mike developed Parkinson’s disease in 2009, later developing Lewy body dementia in 2014. He fought this tough battle with dignity despite several setbacks with pneumonia and bronchitis. He lost his last battle with pneumonia on August 7, 2020, at Unity Hospital.
