Michael Howard

As an Admin Law Judge, Mike was very serious about holding unemployment payment cheaters to account, but when he was the guy that registered you for UI, he was friendly and not at all intimidating. He could be quite cynical about business owners that fired employees on a whim, and sympathetic to those who were canned due to no fault of their own. I missed him when he moved away after retirement.

I worked at the St. Anns Day Care in the 70's when you were enrolled. Your Dad used to pick up and he was a very good Dad. He always asked how your day went and took the time to listen to your stories.

I knew Mike by sight and name in Juneau. Juneau is that kind of town where seeing somebody a few times brought introductions and possibly friendships. We would stop and talk and I enjoyed Mikes' sense of humor. He used to invite me to join the Karate club but because I am a type I diabetic I was afraid to get involved. I should have joined as I probably had nothing to fear and it actually would have been healthy for me as opposed to harming my condition. I left Juneau 11 years ago and...
