Read MoreI knew Mike throughout his college years and then again in Berkeley when he attended Hastings Law School. We shared many happy hours, many beers, and endless good-natured if intense arguments about politics and philosophy. I hadnt seen him in years, but suddenly there is a hole in my world. He is missed. My heart-felt condolences to Dorothy and Mike's family.

I knew Mike through his legal counsel to the Des Moines Zoning Board of Adjustment. I was a new member of the Board in 2004, and Mike was so welcoming to me. I was later the vice-chair, and I appreciated Mike's counsel and assistance as he sat directly to my right. I really enjoyed his sense of humor, which was sometimes very subtle to catch. I remember staying overnight with Mary at the "big house." I thought Mike so so smart...and I was afraid to say anything in front of him!
