On Sunday, July 24, 2022, Michael R. Long, loving husband and father of nine children, passed away at the age of 82. Mike and Eileen raised their children in Cypress Hills and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn where they were active in their parishes of Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Angels. They were fortunate enough to enjoy their summers in Breezy Point with family and friends.
Michael was born on February 1,1940, in Richmond Hill, Queens to Michael and Myra (Nuetzel). On May 4,1963, he married Eileen (Dougherty) from Cypress Hills. Mike and Eileen were married for 59 years and blessed with nine children, 24 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He loved and was extremely proud of his nine children and their spouses.
He is survived by his wife Eileen, his nine children, his brother Tom and sister-in-law Anke Long, his brother-in-law John and sister-in-law Cathy Dougherty and their families.
Mike and Tom, his brother and best friend, operated Long’s Ice Cream Parlor in Cypress Hills until 1982 and Long’s Liquor Store in Bay Ridge until 2016.
Michael was a member of the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1961. He was appointed as a Knight of St. Gregory. Mike was active in city, state, and national politics serving in many positions including the Chairman of the New York State Conservative Party from 1988-2019. He served as a New York City Councilman At Large from 1981-1983. Mike served as a member of the Electoral College in 1980 and 1984 proudly casting his vote for President Ronald Reagan.

I am so blessed to have worked for and with Mike on so many campaigns. Those wonderful years will always have a special place in my heart . He was truly a kind person whose main objective was to help others, stand up for his beliefs and spread his love and knowledge to all who sought his company. With gratitude and deepest sympathy.
