Michael Knud Lyons Engineer and family man, formerly of East Brunswick, 59 Michael Knud Lyons of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully on Dec. 16, 2017, following a heroic battle with brain cancer. Mike was 59 years old and was predeceased by his parents, John David Lyons, Jr. and Verna Knudsen Lyons, of East Brunswick, N.J. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jan Clayton Lyons; daughters, Mary Kate and Elizabeth of Katy, Texas; in-laws, Dorman and Gail Clayton of Alexandria, La.; mother-in-law, Patricia Patterson Williams of Monroe, La.; brother John Lyons and his wife, Michelle, of Hillsborough, N.J.; sister-in-law Cathy Toups and her husband, Randy of Frisco, Texas; brother-in-law Harry Clayton of Monroe, La.; sister-in-law Jennifer Wright and her husband, Robert, of Alexandria, La.; sister-in-law Carol Kelly and her husband, Patrick, of Alexandria, La.; sister-in-law Emily Webre and her husband, Chance, of Brusly, La.; nephews and nieces, Robert Lyons, Jaclyn Lyons, Lacey Ruttkowski, Sydney Toups, Jarred Toups, Lauren Clayton, Andrew Clayton, Cora Wright, Clark Wright, Charles Wright, Caitlin Kelly, Camille Kelly, Cathleen Kelly, Jackson Webre, and Lane Webre. Mike was born on Jan. 4, 1958 in Buffalo, N.Y., and grew up in East Brunswick, N.J., where he graduated from East Brunswick High School in 1976. He was a 1986 graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering, and a 2001 graduate of Duke University with a master of business administration. While at Louisiana Tech he was a proud member of the Louisiana Rho chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He loved being an engineer, leader, and mentor throughout his career with CRS Sirrine, Novozymes, GlaxoSmithKline, Amgen, NNE Pharmaplan, and Process Automation Solutions. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Mike found great joy in coaching and supporting his daughters in their athletic pursuits and in cheering on his beloved Penn State Nittany Lions and South Carolina Gamecocks. Mike will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, faithful friend, servant leader, encourager, mentor, and aficionado of good cigars, great scotch, and bad movies. A memorial service to celebrate Mike's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at First United Methodist Church of Katy. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mike's memory to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
