Michael Wayne Mahanes, 52, of 134 Jay Circle, beloved husband of Cindy Ward Mahanes, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born January 18, 1956, in Fulton, MO, he was the son of the late Paul W. and Betty Kelsey Mahanes. Mike received his undergraduate degree from Westminster College, Fulton, MO, and his Master's degree from the University of Leicester, Leicester, UK. He was formerly employed with CH2MHill (Lockwood Greene) for ten years and MEMC-Monsanto for 17 years. Mike was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. He was a former Cub Scout Master for Pack 3, former member of the Red Cross Board, and served on the Citizen Scholar Committee of the Spartanburg County Foundation. Mike was the father of Catie, Michael, and Ian, and was predeceased by a daughter, Hannah. Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Tess Ward of Papillion, NE; step mother, Carolyn Mahanes of Moore; sisters, Lori (Paul) Crooks, Kim Crutcher, brother, Jeff (Jama) Mahanes, aunt and uncle, Marilyn and Louis Kelsey, all of Liberty, MO; two step brothers, Bill and Bob Bagley of Winslow, AZ; several nieces and nephews, cousins, several brothers and sisters-in-law; and dearest friend, Joe Mayer of Moore. Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at Southside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. David M. Blanton and Mr. Joe Mayer. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mahanes Children Education Fund, c/o Cindy Mahanes, 134 Jay Circle, Moore, SC 29369. Dear Cindy and Family, I was very shocked and saddened by the news of Mike's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I not only knew Mike from church at Southside, but also worked with him at Lockwood Greene. He was truly a fine man, always happy and upbeat. He will be missed.
