Michael Malone Obituary
Mike was a graduate of Dublin High School, where he was an all-state football player and lettered in football, basketball and track. He graduated from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served in the Army Reserves stationed in Athens. Mike worked with Northwestern Mutual Insurance, American Home Supply and Wickes Lumber before joining Power Building Products, where he worked until he retired in May 2009. He was a good friend to many, a loving husband, father and grandfather, an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mike was the son of Linton George Malone, deceased, Lilias Katherine Van Buren Malone, deceased, and step-mother, Evelyn Beachman Malone of Dublin, also deceased. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Moore Malone; his daughter and son-in-law, Lauren (Malone) and Ken Barimo of Roswell, Ga.; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Malone Jr. and Amy of Bogart, Ga.; five wonderful grandchildren, twins, Emma and Kenny Barimo, Michael Barimo, Justin Malone and Ella Malone; sisters and brother-in-laws, Allan and Pat (Malone) Sproles of Dexter, Ga., and Larry and Anne (Malone) Jones of Athens; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Also remembered are his many wonderful friends, along with his loyal caregiver, Cherry Brown.
A memorial service is planned for 4:30 p.m., Thursday, October 15, at Bernstein's Chapel with Rev. Jerry Varnado officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gateway Methodist Church, 6425 Jefferson Road, Athens, GA 30607; St. Mary's Hospice, 1500 Oglethorpe Ave., Athens, GA 30606; or the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, 861 Newton Bridge Road, Athens, GA 30607.

I fiirst met Mike in 74 or 75 and over the years continued our friendship at that wonderful Normaltown establishment on a regular basis. Wendy and I were lucky enough to see Mike a number of times on our last visit home this year. A nicer man didn't exist.

I remember years and years ago when Mike worked at American Home Supply and you lived in Tara apartments, y'all had everyone over for a party, I remember having such a good time, he will surely be missed by all who knew him.
