Martin, Michael W.
Michael W. Martin, 67, of Dimmock Road in Waterford entered into rest on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at his home. Mike was the devoted husband of 44 years of Doris (Vernuccio) Martin. He was born in Derby, CT on March 29, 1946, son of the late Edward and Marguerite (Gutmann) Martin. Mike worked in Quality Control for 25 years at the United Nuclear Corporation in New Haven and Uncasville, and later Custom Marine in Old Saybrook and The Hillery Company in Groton before his retirement in 2011. A long time member, and past Foreman, of the Pioneer Hose Company in Groton, he enjoyed attending firemen's musters with friends and paying daily visits to the beach at Camp Harkness. He was the beloved father, and father-in-law, to Michelle (Martin) and Jonathan Doty of East Lyme. He was the brother of Sarah Martin, Janet Allen, Carol Scott, and Edward Martin of Shelton, as well as Fred Martin and William Martin of Oxford. Friends may greet the family from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at the Byles- Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Friday morning at the Sacred Heart Church, 56 Sacred Heart Dr, Groton. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in his memory be directed to the Camp Harkness Fund, 301 Great Neck Rd, Waterford, CT 06385. Dear Mrs Martin and Michelle, I was so sorry hear about Mr Martin's passing. I always have had fond memories of him. Your whole family was very good to me growing up.Some of my best memories are at your house in Groton. I am truly sorry, you both are in my prayers and thoughts
