Dear Rachel, I was so saddened to read of Michael's death. He was such an accomplished professional, and I am sure he had so juch more to contribute to the world. Moreover, In my head, the two of you are still a young couple, as I first knew you from Akiba, and then GJC. Hard to believe we are all in our third acts. Know that you and your family will very much be in my thoughts. May Michael 's memory be for a blessing.

Michael not only understood the intricacies of city and school budgets, he was willing to patiently explain them to me, again and again, when I was a columnist with the Philadelphia Daily News and writing about the state takeover of the city's public schools. He'd answer the phone no matter how late my deadline and was reliably helpful and good-humored. He cared and was committed to service and was a really good man. I am so sorry for your loss.

Rachel, I am so sorry to learn of Michael's death. I have very fond memories of him since high school and over the years, and his warm, loving energy and spirit. I have seen him occasionally in DC and elsewhere. I just read the remembrance from Howard University and how much good he did for them and how they appreciated his integrity and humility and deep, warm personal connection. He did so much good in the world applying his immense skills in finance to higher education. You must be so...
