As a student, I would sit in awe as he taught. Not because of the computer science but the way he would weave everything together. At the beginning of one class, he held a piece of chalk up to his mouth as he stared off deeply. It seemed he was going to let us in on a big secret. "There's a hell of a tennis game going on out there," he said casually, then went to the board and started into the lesson. I've attached an email from him that I've kept since 1991.
