Michael attended Wayland Baptist University in Kapolei, Hawaii, while serving in the military. He later continued his education at Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama, Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama, and Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, Alabama, majoring in occupational safety and health.
Serving the community and mankind was a priority for Mike. He was a member of The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Alabama where he served as Worshipful Master at William O. Jones Lodge #971 for six years. Michael was also a member of several masonic houses leading up to him earning his 32nd degree. Honorary Past Imperial Potentate, Noble Michael McCall was an active member of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Noble Mystic Shrine (A.E.A.N.O.M.S), Khedive Temple #16, Oasis of Birmingham, Desert of Alabama. He was also a faithful member of the Order of Easter Star, Agape Chapter #898, as an Associate Worthy Patron and eventually became the Worthy Patron.
Michael was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Pi Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Walker County, Alabama. He was also a member of the Zeta Male Network of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Lambda Zeta Zeta Chapter in Bessemer, Alabama, where he served as director with the Stork’s Nest Foundation and Glenda G. Memorial Scholarship.
Michael was a man of faith who acknowledged God in everything he did in life. His faith was exemplified through his dedication to his home, family, church, community, and bonus Alabama family and friends. He prided himself in helping others and always had great words of encouragement to those who were in need. Mike was considered “That Dude” who was always referred to as a great friend, mentor, brother, “Unc,” and some would call him even call him Dad. He will always be remembered for his carefree spirit, contagious personality, electric sense of humor, competitive nature, dapper wardrobe, and oh, let’s not forget those smooth moves on the dance floor with his wife, Tracy. Mike’s love and influence will remain in the hearts of those he encountered throughout the years of his life.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, James McCall and Ruby McCall, and brother, John.
Michael’s memories will be cherished by: the love of his life and dedicated caregiver, Tracy; three sons, Nicholas McCall, Enrico “Ricardo” Shelby, and Jacques “Jaye Rock” Shelby, Jr.; four daughters, Ashleigh, Erin, Jerrika, and Mykal; six siblings, Kelvin (Mia), James Jr. (Edna), Ervin (Anitra), Russell (Talethia), Harold (Tiffany), and Deloris (Benny); brother-in-law, Tyrone C. Johnson, Sr. (LaCreeta); sister-in-law, Tamika Rogers; three grandsons, Braylen (Pa Pa’s Future Sigma), Blake, Carter, and one granddaughter; his Alabama bonus family; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
