Michael Bernard McCoy "Coach McCoy" passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 7: 15 pm. in Houston, Texas where he was a native Houstonian. He worked for the Houston Independent School District (HISD) for over 30 years as an educator and Basketball Coach. Viewing will be at Carl Barnes Funeral Home Thursday, April 2, 2020 from 12pm-5pm. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 3, 2020 from 10:00am (Viewing 8:00 am - 10:00am) at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church 6328 England Street, Houston, Texas 77021. Regretfully, due to COVID-19, there will be limited attendance for seating due to CDC regulations.

Coach, this is how I knew him ... He was a very good friend of mine. He loved God, family, and his job. He was a man that would love to talk on past history, and current events. When you would talk with him, he would always say "Hold that thought" so he would continue speaking. I will miss him dearly, I send my condolences to the family and friends. Stay strong, in the lord. And heaven awaits him with his crown.

I worked with Mr. McCoy at Toyota Center. He was a great person who talked about coaching and his family often. I will truly miss his friendship and his sense of humor. It was my honor to know him. My condolences to his family.

I met coach McCoy in 1993 when I became the Head Football Coach at E.O.Smith Middle School. We were very passionate about our respective sports me football and him basketball. We made a vow to one another that as long as we are coaching at E.O Smith we would not allow any school to be our respective sports in Zone 2 and we both kept that promise we were District Champions 6 years straight. I want to offer my condolences to the entire McCoy family. Rest in peace my friend
