Not sure what to say?

My Irish lit prof when I was an undergrad at Fairfield - his grad course. I have 4 sisters, 2 speak Gaelic fluently and founded the Irish arts crossword in nyc. I loved our Irish connection and what he gave me to my heritage. We bonded - sorry he's gone. Rip, my friend.

I swung at the next sound --
the sweet shock
of a ball
perfectly finding a bat

A Eulogy for Michael F. McDonnell
read at his funeral
by William H. Schaberg

The family’s invited me to make a few closing comments for this service and I’m honored to have been chosen – from all of Michael’s friends – to do this.

The question, of course, is “where to begin?”

On Saturday afternoon, I sat down with Pattie and Kevin, Colleen and Sean and we discussed some of the things about Michael McDonnell that we thought should be...

"HIMSELF" will always be part of our fondest memories.

Dear Pat, I was there this afternoon with Peggy and Linda. Because I met old friends and got talking, I fell behind in line and was unable to greet you before they were ready to go. Please know that I was able to offer a prayer for Michael, and my prayers for you and your family will continue as you begin your new life without Michael. You have the strength to go forward with your beautiful family, I know. Love, Joan

My deepest sympathies to the McDonnell family. I had the honor of taking care of Michael while he was in the ER at SVMC. He was a special person who will be missed by all.

Thanks for exposing me to Behan and W.C. Fields and many things in between. You once said your job was not merely to teach, but also to inspire us to make learning a lifetime activity. I continue to explore roads you walked with me. Thanks for the inspiration.

Dear Patricia and Family,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Although I can't be there in person to convey my sympathy, know I am there in spirit. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. See you soon.

Thanks for being my friend, Mike.
