Michael McHugh could have stayed in London. Cantor Fitzgerald had sent him there in January to open the firm's energy desk. It meant more ‹ possibly a lot more ‹ money and a new future, and his wife, Maria, was ready for it.
But Mr. McHugh, 35, the sales director of Cantor's TradeSpark division, had sunk his roots too deep in Tuckahoe, a village in Westchester County.
He started as an adjunct member of the village's planning board and quickly moved up to chairman. He loved the town because it was so pleasant and because of all the "normal, unpretentious people" who live there, Mrs. McHugh said.
So in April, Mr. McHugh returned, to Maria and the three kids and the fixer-upper they had bought before they thought they could afford to live in Tuckahoe. Mr. McHugh came back so that his son Michael would not have to change soccer teams and so that he himself could run for the county board of legislators. Now his widow is running in his place in Tuesday's election.
"I thought, 'I really can't leave this hanging out,' " she said. "I have to finish it up. To complete a journey that we started."

Michael, You are will not be forgotten. The world is crazy with the last 2 years in a pandemic. Political and social issues and changes. After 20 years, the remembrances carried on and the loss from that tragic day is still so real. You are still loved and missed by all those who you knew and loved. We will always remember and never forget all of the September 11th victims. Praying for you always.

Mike was a great man. He was my broker in the late 90's. I moved on to Business Development/Origination and was no longer dealing directly with Mike.
It's 1999, Mike calls me out of the blue to check on me. I was going through a divorce so not doing so great. He invited me to play golf with his boss and him. He had a very full schedule and I suggested he call someone else as presently I was really of no use commercially to him.

Mike was someone very special to me. He was my sister Kim's boyfriend when I was between the ages of 15 & 18 and he had a huge impact on my life. In the three years that I knew him, he was like a big brother to me. He always went out of his way to include me in things they did, even though I'm sure my sister wasn't always happy about it. Michael, I lit the candle last night, and put it on my front stairs, and I will again tonight, as I have done every year in your memory.. and when I came over to my daughter's house this morning, I saw a lighted candle on her front porch as well.
