I got my SFC magazine today and found out about Michael. Great guy. Also was a Ave Maria 2nd floor resident. We used to swap albums and I went down to Avalon to see his band Quiet Country .
Will be praying for him and family.

Today, the Saint Francis University magazine arrived with the sad, sad, sad news that a great natural athlete, musician and all round nice guy, Mike "Mickey Mantle" McKendry, passed away. He was a fellow denizen of the second floor, Ave Maria Hall, one of several students who were part of our own "Ave Fraternity". In May 1972, we both were moving on. He, a senior, was graduating, and I, a junior, was transferring to Penn State. He was the last person I spoke with from SFC when he took me to...

Mary and family,
I think Elton John must have met Michael, possibly at a McKendry Brothers gig. For surely Sir Elton wrote this lyric with Michael in mind: "And I thank the Lord there's people out there like you". I am sincerely thankful to have met and known Michael. God bless you and ease your grief.

My heartfelt condolences to Mary and all of Mike's family. What a good man to have known. I will treasure memories from our days at CDHS, learning the Trio's songs, and playing music in the basement at D Street--and Mike's adroit nudging of Willy Zapf into letting us at those Martin guitars. I'll also treasure being Old Friends. When we reconnected after many years of hiking different paths, Mike was the same generous, interested friend. It's a comfort that his recordings with Eddie will stay...

I am truly sorry for your loss. Michael will be missed but he will never be forgotten. A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for the are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us they live on. May you take comfort in knowing that you have an angel to watch over you now. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult time. Sincerely, Mary

Michael was a great friend, since our years in grammar school. We played baseball and music together all these years. His sense of humor always had everyone in stitches. We always left His presence with a smile on our faces for the rest of the day. Will miss you fellow Hitchhiker.
