George L Doherty Funeral Service, Inc - Somerville Obituary

McLean, Michael W. - A resident of Winthrop, formerly of Somerville, transitioned on Sunday, November 26th, surrounded by the embrace of his loving family. He was a vibrant soul at 69 years young.

Born in Boston and nurtured in Somerville, Michael was the cherished son of the late James J. and Jean M. (Kelley) McLean.

A devoted husband for 15 years, Michael shared a deep connection with Maria (Pangilinan) McLean.

As a loving father, Michael leaves behind Kristi McInnis and her husband Keith of Reading, with a special place in his heart reserved for his grandson, Ryan.

Michael's legacy extends as the cherished brother of Lea Caggiano and her husband Robert of Medford, Kellie McLean of Somerville, and the late James McLean.

He held a special bond as a dear brother-in-law to Juvie Aringo, Jenevie Pangilinan, and Jay Pangilinan. Michael is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry forward the warmth of his memory.

Michael was a dedicated husband to his wife Maria. Their love story unfolded at the docks where Michael worked, and their eyes met for the first time. It was a moment of love at first sight, marking the beginning of their enduring connection.

Michael was a man of diverse passions, indulging in activities such as stretching, running, walking, swimming, and traveling. His love extended to simple pleasures like indulging in coconut ice cream and Maria’s version of spaghetti. Beyond that, he was a true enthusiast of football sports, Mecum car shows, "Bitchin Ride" series, and the Survivor, showcasing his wide-ranging interests and enjoyment in various aspects of life.

Michael was a beautiful person who radiated joy and happiness wherever he went. His captivating smile illuminated every room, both at home and at work, leaving an indelible mark. His absence will undoubtedly be felt. Michael embodied kindness, care, and generosity, always ready to extend a helping hand. He was someone who made a meaningful difference in the lives of many, leaving a legacy of compassion and positive impact.

Michael treasured his position as the Chief Clerk of ILA Local 1066, showcasing unwavering dedication. A proud union member of International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1066 since 1970. He consistently prioritized cultivating effectiveness, honing problem-solving skills, and earning respect in the workplace. His commitment to his job reflected a passion for contributing to the success and harmony of the organization.

His approachability, empathy, and willingness to support others have made him not just a superior in title but a mentor and friend to his team. His legacy as a well-loved and outstanding Chief Clerk reflects not only his professional competence but also his exceptional qualities as a leader and colleague.

Despite the challenges of his health journey, Michael maintained a positive attitude, consistently prioritizing the well-being of his wife Maria and Kristi over his own concerns. Remarkably, he persisted in his daily routine of stretching, walking, and lifting weights, engaging in these activities alongside Maria. His resilience and selflessness showcased a deep commitment to his loved ones and a determination to share meaningful moments with them, even in the face of adversity.

Michael's sense of humor remained a shining light throughout his entire journey. Whether he was swimming with his daughter Kristi and son-in-law Keith, making silly faces with his grandchild Ryan, or sharing jokes with nurses, he never lost the ability to bring smiles to those around him. His talent for humor, which brightened the lives of others, will be dearly missed, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and joy.

Michael's journey through the insidious illness revealed his extraordinary courage in confronting life's challenges with a resilient spirit and a smile. In the shadow of his late father, Buddy, who remained a constant source of inspiration and an enduring idol, Michael found a wellspring of strength throughout his entire life. He proved to be a true warrior, facing discomfort with unwavering strength until the very end. His enduring bravery serves as an inspiration to all who witnessed his journey, leaving a lasting legacy of courage in the face of adversity.

Run free now, my love! I love you to infinity and beyond, Michael McLean, from your proud wife, Maria
