Williams Funeral Home, Inc. - Augusta Obituary

Michael Alonzo Moody, fondly referred to as Mike, was born on June 24, 1949 in the Bronx, New York, to the late Jesse Mae Franklin Moody.  After a brief illness, he departed this life on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at home in Augusta, GA with his wife of thirty-six (36) years, Donna M. Moody, by his side.

Mike was a voracious reader and always had a thirst for knowledge, whether through formal or informal education. He was educated in his early years in the New York City school system and later obtained his bachelor’s degree from Queens College. Mike enjoyed a long tenured career in Accounting.  In addition to Mike’s professional and educational pursuits, he was skilled at athletics, and could frequently be found playing basketball, paddleball, bowling and most often his passion, tennis.

Mike met and married Florence Awtry in 1970 and from that union, had a daughter, Tamiko Moody.
He later found the love of his life, Donna Crosson, who he married in 1987 and relocated from Flushing, New York to Augusta, GA.

While in Augusta, GA Mike would dedicate the later part of his life to his passion, tennis.  During his retirement, Mike focused his energies on teaching the game to players looking to enhance their performance, players who wanted to learn how to play or just anyone that asked for his help.  He began his teaching career at Newman Tennis Center, Augusta, GA and later continued providing private lessons to his students right up until his transition.  Mike held many titles during his life, from Manager to Coach but enjoyed spending time helping his students, family and friends with the game he was most passionate about, tennis.

While Mike left us far too soon, his impact will be felt for years to come by many. Mike was preceded in death by his siblings: Bertha M. Bland, Rev. Robert L. Moody, Allen A. Moody, Vivian R. Moody, and Lucious Moody.

In addition to his wife, Donna, Mike leaves to cherish his memories:   daughter, Tamiko A. Moody of Richmond, VA; grandson, Wynston Joseph Moody-Carter, of Richmond, VA; special cousins: Jessie Broomer Thomas of Wilmington, DE and Rev. Barbara Greaux Baccus of Lake Worth, FL; Goddaughters: Jessica Sims of Chester, PA,  Janae M. and Janelle V. Broadnax of Atlanta, GA,; special niece: Janice Moody Ward of Thomson, GA; best friend of over fifty (50) years: Daniel King, Sr. of Danbury, CT.  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, B. A. at Williams Funeral Home, 2945 Old Tobacco Road, Hephzibah, GA  30815, in the Williams Memorial Chapel at 11:00 a.m.

Family and Friends will be received immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory.
