Michael “Sonny” Motsko Jr., 92, of Whitehall, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Anna C. “Bubbie” (Csencsits), who passed in 2020. Born June 23, 1931, in Cementon, he was a son of the late Michael Sr. and Mary (Felchok) Motsko. Michael worked at Mack Trucks as a mechanic and inspector for 25 years. After retiring, he drove school bus for the Whitehall School District. Michael honorably served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in the special intelligence division at Arlington Hall and the Pentagon with the F.B.I. and C.I.A. He was a member of Queenship of Mary Catholic Church, Northampton, Northampton VFW Post 4714, the Catholic War Vets Post 454 and the Cementon Playground Association. Michael loved tinkering and creating various mechanical gadgets.


Survivors: Michael is survived by his daughter, Toni Shoemaker and husband, Bryan; sons, James and wife, Stephanie, Matt and wife, Michelle, Mark and companion, Catherine; grandchildren, Justin, Kara, Jamie, Jeremy, Devin, Melissa, Madison, Matthew; brother, Ronald; and a sister, Jean. A brother, Robert, and a sister, Margaret, preceded Michael in death. 


Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 1st at 10:30 a.m. in Queenship of Mary Church, 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton. Family and friends may call on Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton, and on Friday morning from 9:15 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in the church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. 


Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice in loving memory of Michael. Online condolences may be offered below.

"A soldier has passed away today." You are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. We all are grateful for your stepping up to the plate when your country needed you the most. The final bugle has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender.
