Not sure what to say?

The MIT rugby Club sponsored an intramural 7-a side tournament in the the spring of 1982, a blatant recruiting mechanism, and while there may have been many products of that day the most memorable was the big guy from Cornell and CalTech, Murph. While we always wanted to play and win rugby games, we definetly wanted to do it with teammates that we liked. As Lisa said recently, we actually made friends for life, and we made friends that transcended departments of the Institute. Mike was...

We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn about Mike´s passing. Mike had a great character, was a supportive and patient friend, and a dedicated educator. We will always fondly remember him and are grateful for the time spent with him over the years. We wish Lisa and Family courage and peace during this time of mourning. Please accept our sincere condolences. Maggie Witek and Matt Hupert

Social Studies,6th grade. Assignment was to research and write a report about a country. Plenty of time given before due. We were the only ones to not complete the report on time ! Handing in finished pages and rough drafts! Although I didn´t know Michael beyond that grade, I´ve thought of him often when I laugh and wince at "last minutes" and procrastination. My condolences to his family and friends. Karen Kalb

Single Memorial Tree

I wish my memories of Mike were as vivid as Gary´s, but I only knew him for a short while in high school. Fifty years hence it was great to talk with him at the first night of our reunion at Craftsmen. I was happy to see him.

So sad to hear this. I saw Mike about a year ago at the 1973 Class Reunion. He was my first friend in kindergarten. On my first day I didn't know anybody and felt scared and alone. He came up to me and asked if I wanted to play with him and we became friends and school mates all the way through High School. We were in Boy Scouts together and both of us, along with Mike Ryan, received our Eagle awards together. Mike and I were the last two finalists in the 6th grade spelling bee, and I had to...

Michael Mitchell (Mitch) Dr. Michael C. Murphy will always be remembered as an incredible person." He made an indelible impact on my success in life of which I am forever grateful. He will be remembered for his brilliant mind, and he was an even better person. There are no words to make the pain go away but we all can take comfort in knowing he is at peace and that his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved and appreciated him.

I echo Kevin K´s message. Great colleague/faculty @ LSU ME. Gentle giant, true friend, "Uncle Mike" to my three boys - you are gone way too soon but will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Murph

I was on the LSU Mechanical Engineering faculty with Mike for 15 years. He was a very good colleague- smart, committed to education, and always putting the students first. He cared about those things in academia worth caring for.
