Unfortunately I learned about his death just now. I was a student of his at University of Wisconsin Law School and was his student aid there. He was a great mentor my entire career and a true gem. A brilliant and kind man. I am so saddened by the news.

My condolences to the family and friends of Professor Olivas. I was a student in his Immigration Law classes and he was hilarious! Professor Michael Olivas was a student with me at St Pius X High School in the 1960's. Everything about him told you he would be a good man, a scholar and unique in his interests. Just chatting over breakfast with him last year left you with the feeling you were sitting with an accomplished man. His legacy will always remain. He is not really gone.
