I am grateful for the memories that the good Lord has allowed me to have with Mike.
My favorites include: Riding on the river raft which he constructed; learning how to sit in a canoe so it wouldn't tip; taking care of a baby bird he brought home; being groomed with the dog's brush because none other could be found; and making peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches for Mike to take on one of his trips back to school as he was appreciative of my efforts despite the over handling of the...

Mike & I would often ride the 17 bus from the Prep to Suburban Station. Before catching his train home, Mike liked to buy an apple or pear for a quarter from the vending machine in the station. He always offered to buy me one but I refused. I was too proud to admit I couldn't afford the 25 cents. One afternoon, he said, "you know, Charlie, sometimes you do a person a favor by letting them do you a favor." I let him buy me a delicious pear that day. I think he enjoyed watching me eat it more...

Mike was a wonderful neighbor and a compassionate nurse so deeply committed to his patients and his students. I would run into him often on his bike or at the library and we would have great conversations. I will miss him.
