I met Father Mike at the Our Lady of the Angels Secular Franciscan Fraternity in Ferguson. He came to Granite City to anoint my cousin in the nursing home and her husband in the hospital. I enjoyed assisting at Mass with him in his living room and watching Bluebloods on Friday nights. He always had hot coffee and made a very good whiskey sour.

I taught with Father Sandweg at St. Mary´s High School and later he was an assistant pastor at our parish, St. Simon
Parish.
May he rest in peace.

When Mike Sandweg was the associate pastor at St. Kevin Church in St. Ann, I was a long-time "visitor" with my wife Eileen, but I had not yet formally joined the Church. Mike offered to "take me out for a beer and make me a Catholic". Somehow, I didn't take him up on the offer, and I ended up having to go through a 50+ week RCIA program. Rest in peace, Mike.
