SAUNDERS, Michael W. – Of Flint, age 74, died Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at his residence.
Visitation 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint.
Per Michael’s wishes cremation will take place after the Funeral Mass.
Those desiring may make contributions to NEW Life Center or St. John Vianney Vocational Education Fund.
Michael was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 15, 1950, the son of Edward Saunders and Virginia Wiltze.
Mike graduated from Madison High School in Madison Heights, Michigan and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Mike enjoyed watching U of M sports, Red Wing Hockey and spending time with his family. He was an AYSO Coach for both of his children and Powers High School Band Booster.
Mike retired from Michigan Television in 2010, after 30 years of service. During his tenure he gave tours to hundreds of Cub Scouts at both Mott Community College and U of M campuses.
Surviving are his wife, Ann;
son, Alex Saunders of Flint;
daughter, Maggie (Kevin) Tolasch of South Carolina;
4 grandchildren, Alexandria, Christopher, McCauley and McKenzie Tolasch;
siblings, David (Denise) Saunders, Janice Cushard, Judy (David) Benedict, Cindy (Ken) Johnston, Bob (Deb) Saunders and Tim (Kathy) Saunders;
brother-in-law, Jim (Cheryl) Starkey;
sister-in-law, Yvonne (Patrick) Greiner;
many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Saunders and Virginia Wiltze; in-laws, Gerald and Carol Starkey; siblings, Constance (Melvin) Mace, Ken (Josephine) Saunders and Dan Saunders; brother-in-law, Walter Cushard.
