Not sure what to say?

I did an independent study under Dr. Savic when I was an undergrad at RPI. He was an interesting, encouraging, and very kind man. I really enjoyed my time working with him. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

Dr. Savic greeting me after my Ph.D. defense

It is very sad to hear about the passing away of our beloved advisor Dr. Savic. He was one of the gentlest persons I knew, with his constant smile. The only time I remember him being sad was when his beloved wife passed away. We accompanied him to the burial, which was a Eastern European monastery somewhere in the New York state, amidst heavy rains. I remember him breaking into tears when he appreciated all of his students being there with him to share his grief. Not too long ago, we...

It is with great sadness that I am hearing about the passing of Mike Savic, an RPI colleague and friend. While I would agree with all the superlatives -- brilliant, creative, thoughtful, generous, etc. -- that one can employ to describe Michael, I will always remember him as a "gentleman", gentle in all aspects of his interactions with students, colleagues, friends and, I am sure, relatives. I remember once asking him about how he could remain so gentle given his war time experiences; he...

It was an honor to have Dr. Savic as my professor for many courses as I pursued a BSEE at WNEC (now WNEU) in Springfield, MA. in the late 1970's. He was also my senior project advisor. What I remember most about Dr. Savic, besides his obvious brilliance, was his great passion for teaching and motivating his students and also his sense of humor.Forty years have passed, and I still remember working in the lab with him and both of us dissolving in laughter over some long forgotten circuitry...

I am grateful to have known Dr Savic, and it was his influence that set the arc of my entire career. He was so creative, but perpetually advocating for the underdog. I remember his generosity and his dedication to his family and to his students. Working in his lab introduced me to people from around the world. Michael's difficult experiences growing up in a totalitarian police state made him a humanitarian who treated everyone with respect and dignity - and the spirit of joyful collaboration...

"New Technology can help Diagnose Lung Diseases," Rensselaer Mag, Dec 2000.

Professor Emeritus Michael I. Savic was brilliant, creative, and a tremendous advisor to two dozen graduate students at RPI. During a visit to Mike's Speaker Verification Research Group for a status update on 9 November 1989, Mike prepared an amazing gourmet meal and I vividly remember watching the fall of the Berlin Wall with Mike - he was beyond ecstatic! Another great memory of Mike was a car accident in a snowstorm, the only problem was that he was not in a car. Mike made a miraculous...

I was privileged to have been friends with Mike for over a decade.
