LOY, Dr. Joan M. – Of Ann Arbor, formerly of Flint, age 89, died Thursday, November 28, 2019.
A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Reverend Karen Knight Price officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Sunset Hills Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research.
Joan was born in Flint, MI on March 28, 1930 to Chalmer D. and Jessie L. (Dean) Loy. While a high school teacher in the Flint area, Joan quenched her thirst for knowledge by earning her PhD in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Michigan in hopes of assisting her students in their troubling times. Joan loved her music. She was an accomplished piano and organ player. Joan was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrna L. Loy in 1938 and Marilyn Y. (Richard) Knight in 2016.
Surviving are her daughters, Arden L. Wykes and Dr. Amy L. Dean;
sisters, Judith A. (Albert) Macksood and Gail L. Loy;
brothers, Roger D. (Kyong) Loy, Terry D. (Judith) Loy and Steven D. Loy;
many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews.
