SMITH, Michael Harris - 34, of Dartmouth, passed away August 21 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. Born in Halifax, he was the only son of Karen and Derek Smith. Michael graduated in 2002 from Dartmouth High School. He graduated NSCC with 4th Class Power Engineer. He was very involved with baseball in his youth, and achieved lifeguard status at 16 years. Michael would go off-roading in his Pathfinder with friends and loved camping almost every summer at Dollar Lake with family and friends. Michael is survived by his wife, Katherine Smith, sisters; Tammy (Doug Clark) McDow of Dartmouth and Amanda (James Browne) Power of Montreal; two nephews, Justin and Corey; many aunts, uncles and cousins; parents-in-law, Bruce and Kathy MacMillan; brother-in-law, Neal (Korri, Finn, Elli). Michael is predeceased by grandparents, Mervyn and Jean Smith and Harris and Violet McDow. A celebration of his life will be held August 31 at 7:00pm in South Woodside Community Center, 5 Everette Street Dartmouth. He is dearly missed by many very close lifelong friends and coworkers made through working at Crombie for over 12 years.

Just heard the news through some old baseball buddies. My condolences :( I haven't seen or spoken with Mike in years, but remember as a young child, going into the cabin of the ferry boat with Mike and Derek . My parents were friends with Karen and Derek when I was young and spent some time hanging with Mike on Lynn Drive as well as playing some good old Woodside baseball. So sorry to hear! Way too young. My thoughts are with the family.
