Michael was born on October 28, 1960 and passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019. Michael was a resident of Lumberton, Texas at the time of passing. A gathering of Mr. Smith's family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. with his funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Broussard's, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His committal will be held at Broussard's Crematorium, Beaumont.
Mike was an awesome colleague at the American Osteopathic College of Pathology and the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology. He helped the College navigate difficult times as we moved from independent management to being part of the original iteration of the AOA Certifying Board Services. I will miss him immensely.

Mike was a trusted and amicable fellow Pathology Resident at OU (OKC, OK). Upon completion of Residency, he led the OU Lab Hematology/Hematopathology Section for several years. We joined forces again in 1995, when I recruited him to help lead the Hematopathology Section at Christus St Elizabeth Hospital (Beaumont TX), a position that he held for 20+ years, until his retirement several years back. I considered Michael to be one of my closest friends. We had some great times playing guitar together. I was deeply saddened when I learned of his passing. I wish we had spent more time jamming. He was always thoughtful and sincere. I never once saw him lose his temper. When most people would have. Amazing human being. He will be sorely missed.
