Not sure what to say?

Every time that I would go to hear THE Instrument, Michael was always "game" to play anything that I would ask; he was a true and delightful musician and always smiled and his playing reflected the positive, humor of life! The organ world certainly lost a great spirit full of humor, professionalism, and wonderful, sensitive performances! Mat he rest with the angels; hopefully, he playing for them as well!

Michael was truly a true gentle man as well as a truly gifted performer. I met him at "THE" organ at Wannamaker's then called. He asked my what would I like him to play. I suggested the Fugue from the Reubke Organ Sonata. I was shocked that he said with a great smile, "OK, great! Please take the phone off its hook; otherwise, people in the various departments will complaint.!! His playin was always a true enjoyment. I have all of his recordings.
However, I realized that he was a kind,...

Michael Stairs was my "Big Brother" at Westminster Chair College. When I was a freshman in 1965, he ambled into my dorm room as I was still unpacking and introduced himself. He settled my fears and helped me keep on track. I have followed his fabulous career ever since. He was kind and gentle and easy to talk with, yet he made a powerful and indelible mark on the Philadelphia music scene from Wanamaker's to the Kimmel Center and is gone too soon.

I was fortunate to hear Mr. Stairs play for the Mostly Mozart concert at St. Luke's in Center City Phila. probably back in the 1990's. His recital made a lasting impression on me. What a hugely talented human being.

Mr Stairs played the organ for my wedding at St John's Episcopal Church in Bala Cynwyd in February, 1992. We were blessed to have his talents for such an occasion. Deepest condolences to his family and friends.

We have been friends since the 70's a friend whom I've admired and respected for his friendship and magnificent talent. I will miss him.

As long-time members of Mendelssohn Club who participated in many Christmas concerts with Michael, we offer our deepest condolences to Michael's family. His humor, artistry, and musicianship made the rehearsals and performances a joy to sing. Unforgettable!
