Michael Steinberg

It is hard to imagine that our families have known each other dating back to the 1930s. This was when Michael and his parents left Germany for South Africa, staying originally with my mother's cousins, on their farm in the Northern Transvaal. I first met Michael in 1968 when he was living in LA and he came to the Bay Area to visit our South African cousin , Max Plaut who, while on a business trip, was visiting my mother, who had been a fellow concentration camp prisoner with Max's father...

What an amazing life. His travels ( relocations) shows courage, hope and remarkable adaptability. My hobby of genealogy has encouraged reading about the lives of even unrelated individuals. Whoever wrote his story did a great job of detailing his life of hope and resourcefulness. A life well lived.

It was always a pleasure to spend time with Michael and Sue, at parties, restaurants, and their home in San Francisco.

Great man! Had several opportunities of meeting Mr. Steinberg at Foley's Memorial city. He came to Foley's from Sanger Harris after the two organizations merged. He was over the buying pyramid as President while Lasker Meyers was the CEO overseeing the stores. There were tensions that showed sometimes but both the gentlemen were absolutely brilliant! Both are gone and I am saddened by that.

Michael was an exceptional human being whom we will never forget. Kind and generous, and an adoring husband to sweet Sue. I will treasure the memories of our friendship.
