Peaslee Wakefield Funeral Home - Sanbornville Obituary

Michael James Thibeault, Sr., 71, passed away suddenly at his home in Sanbornville, New Hampshire, on June 29, 2025. Born on March 29, 1954, in Kittery, Maine, Michael grew up in Berwick and graduated from Noble High School.

After high school, Michael proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as an aviation mechanic, achieving the rank of Sergeant (E5) before receiving an honorable discharge. Following his military service, he built a long and respected career as a machinist, working for many years at EAD Motors in Dover, NH, and later at Spaulding Composites in Rochester, NH.

Michael was a man of many talents and passions. A highly skilled woodworker, he spent countless hours crafting with care and precision. He was also a dedicated youth sports coach during the years he lived in Sanford and Springvale, Maine, where he raised his three sons. Whether on the football field, the ice rink, or the baseball diamond, he gave his time generously to support and guide young athletes.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Michael was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, New England Patriots, and his beloved Penn State Nittany Lions. His love of music, especially the classic rock of the 1970s, was another defining part of his life. He was particularly fond of Yes, Pink Floyd, and Jimmy Buffett, whose music became the soundtrack to his many Caribbean cruises in later years.

Michael was known for his calm and patient demeanor as a father, a contrast to the boisterous, opinionated, and sarcastic sense of humor he shared with friends and colleagues. He loved being surrounded by those he cared about, often hosting barbecues and pool gatherings at his home.

He was the eldest son of the late William and Collette (Littlefield) Thibeault. He is survived by his longtime partner of 25 years, Catherine Vachon; his siblings Jeffrey Thibeault, Kathy Thibeault, Lisa Cressey, and Karen Wentworth; his sons Michael Thibeault Jr., Daniel Thibeault, and Joel Thibeault; and his step-sons John Kimball Jr. and David Kimball. He was a proud grandfather to Gianna, Natalia, and Jocelyn Thibeault; Hillarie, Kara, Jackson, John III, Isabella, and Kenzie Kimball. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Diana Smith (Thibeault), Alan Thibeault, Kristine Hofher (Cressey), Peter Wentworth, Jacob Wentworth, and Amanda Wentworth. He was predeceased by his nephew, Justin Wentworth, whose memory remained close to his heart.

Michael also leaves behind his beloved dog, Pepper, and joins his cherished pets Lady and Foxy, who were spoiled and adored throughout their lives.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at his home, where Cathy still resides, at 665 Old Stage Road, Sanbornville, NH, on Saturday, July 26th, from 1 to 4 PM. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.
