Not sure what to say?

Hi. I knew Mike back at UNC, when we both worked for the Daily Tar Heel. I just heard this terrible news today. I'm very sorry for your loss. I didn't know Mike well, but I have a clear memory of him from the DTH - he's smiling and working hard - the epitome of a talented newsman.

Fred and Betty,

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your son.

My prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Mike was a joy to grow up with in Smithfield, NC. He was so special and unique in the way he always seem to be happy and positive, either constantly smiling or very quick offer a warm grin. If you needed encouragement, he could pick you up. He had a great sense of humor. Mike could make you laugh and was also quick to laugh with you at life's circumstances. With his many gifts and talents, it was his wonderful, positive attitude that I will always treasure. He was a great friend to...

I had the pleasure of working closely with Michael for several years. He was a tremendous asset to the Newport News Treasurer’s Office. His expertise and knowledge in his legal field provided my staff and me with an invaluable resource. Michael was a most personable individual, always smiling, and always a pleasure to be in his company. He will be deeply missed.

My sincerest sympathies and condolences to Mrs. Toole, and his children, Mack and KK.

God bless you and...

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow. I never had the pleasure of meeting your husband, but his couragous fight was well known at the Victory Ymca.
May your precious memories of him keep you strong. God Bless.

Mike made working the Daily Press night desk (way back when) so much fun. I admired him so much, both as a journalist and as a person. I know what a loss this is for everyone who loved him. Sending condolences, love and light.

I was honored to be a classmate of Michael's in the VPCC Leadership Institute Class of 2008. He brought his quick wit and smiles with him throughout our journey as a class. We all will miss him. My heart is with his wife and family during this time of loss. Hold on dearly to all of the wonderful memories.
