Passed away peacefully Sunday, September 25, 2022, at his home; age 80 years. Michael was born on February 24, 1942 in Bridgeport, MI to the late Carl and Edna VanWormer. He was married to Jane Witt on November 26, 1966; she survives him. He served as a reservist in the US Army. Michael was employed as a tractor mechanic before following his passion as a farmer.


He loved collecting and repairing Farmall and IH antique tractors. He was a lifelong member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Michael was an active volunteer at several festivals in Frankenmuth including the Summer Music Festival and Oktoberfest. He enjoyed his Sunday morning drives listening to The Lutheran Hour, Immanuel Lutheran Church- Bay City, and polka music.


Surviving besides his wife Jane are their children Paul (Beth) VanWormer of Frankenmuth, Amy (Paul) Benko of Frankenmuth, Marla (Greg) Winegarden of Frankenmuth, Andrew (Trista) VanWormer of Saginaw; grandchildren Rachel and Danielle VanWormer, Alex, Adam, Kyle and Matt Benko, Connor and James McLaughlin; brothers and sisters Julie (Detlef) Olsen, Carol (Harry) Burchett, and David (Jennifer) VanWormer; brothers and sisters-in-law Gene (Janet) Witt and Diane (Bill) Ackerman, and many nieces and nephews.


Memorial service will take place on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola St. Frankenmuth. Rev. Shawn Fenske will officiate. Mike’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church or Immanuel Lutheran Church-Bay City, Media Ministry.
