Not sure what to say?

I had the priviledge of having Mr. Varner for biology classes at J.M. Tate High School in '80 and '81. As others have attested to, he always had a smile that could warm your heart and a cheery good morning greeting. For me, he took some subjects of learning that back then were very embarassing, and made them bearable. How could you go thru his classes or homeroom and not be touched by his memory? I married a Navy man and moved away from Pensacola but made it back for a class reunion and was...

I just learn of Mike's death. Once a brother in Christ, always a brother in Christ. I am sure he will be missed. I'll be praying for Kathy and entire family.

In memory of a wonderful person Mr. Varner. We will remember and miss you always. Thank you for that you did for so many young people. We wish your family all the peace and blessings needed at this time. Class 1981

Kathy--Your journey these last two years defines LOVE. The Mike and Kathy romance and relationship stands as a testament that God made each of you for each other and he lived in your hearts during all your years together. Mikes kindness and indomitable zest for life touched so many, and lives on with the memories
he imprinted on thousands of hearts. I know in my soul that Ryan was there to welcome Mike and they are both watching over you and the boys. My thoughts and prayers are with you...

Mr. Varner was my most favorite teacher ever! He always had a smile on his face and he truely cared about each and every one of his students. Heaven gained a wonderful angel.

Christy Smith (Tate '98)

I had the honor of being taught by Mr. Varner at PSC. He was a wonderful teacher and person. I told him at the beginning of the class that I was horrible at science and I was afraid I was going to struggle in his class. He told me that I was not "horrible" at anything and I would do just fine in his class. He was right...he helped me through that class and I ended up with an A. To his family, I am so sorry for your loss and please accept my sincerest condolences. PSC Class of 2009.

In all of my 19 years of schooling, Mr. Varner was the only teacher or professor who ever reprimanded me for receiving an "A" on a test. It was a low A, only 92 out of 100. He told me that I wasn't applying myself and could do better. He was right. Mr. Varner was an insightful and gifted teacher who was able to determine what instruction was needed for each of his students on an individual basis. He was a kind and caring man. Class of 1985.

Mike will be remembered as a sharing, caring and compassionate man who provided encouragement to my mom and me when she was in her last months of this life also. Thoughts and prayers are with Cathy and the boys.

I was in Mr. Varner's first class of students. He was an awesome teacher. I also had the chance to serve as his student assistant. He is one of the reasons I chose to go into the education field. We need more teachers like Mr. Varner.....we have lost a very special person. I am so glad he was able to come to our 30th class reunion in 2008. My prayers are with you all. May it comfort you to know how much he touched so many. God Bless You.
